Artist's Comments

Probably the only piece of fanart that'll go into my art school portfolio (*sniff*).

This is Erik, aka the Phantom, as he's depicted as the Red Death in Gaston Leroux's novel "The Phantom of the Opera". There's just something much more overwhelming about the full skull mask, the over-abundant gaudy red clothing, and his golden cat-like eyes being the only thing that would shine through from behind the mask.

Acrylics - 9"x20" - about 3-4 hours

Interesting take on The Phantom. Well done.

How is this bloke supposed to be the Angel of Music if he has no LIPS! x___X
:iconscortia:
*poke* *points at description* that's his mask. >;) Yeah, a skull wearing a skull, rather redundant. But yeah... he doesn't have much in the way of lips underneath that.
:iconkazenokisara:
ah, gorgeous... he's amazing *huggles* I prefer the full skull mask too ^_^ now, I need to read the book... lol

Yeah the book is better in a lot of ways... but then Gaston is HORRIBLE at pacing. Erik abducts Christine, so let's do about three drawn out chapters about how he stole money from the directors before getting into that. >_< But yeah, I found Erik so much richer. And then Susan Kay's "Phantom" gave him an even more remarkable level of depth on top of that.
:iconripvanwinkle:
That's not the first time you've drawn the Phantom that way ;p Neither version had lips o_O *points at Gret's avatar*

Bah the other one has some skin. ¬_¬
